Hatshepsut Temple


The temple of Hatshepsut dates back to the new Kingdom time dynasty number 18 roughy 1747 B.C. The temple carved into The rock and it is Just behind the Valley of the Kings. Behind The temple is the tomb of the Queen which has the number K.v 20. It is one of the longest tombs in the Valley of the Kings.

Why this location of the temple?

For so many reasons. Firstly it will face the main gate of Karnak Temple which is the largest sun temples. Which were built for the god Amun Re. Secondly, it will be near and close to the Valley of Kings where the tombs of the queen Herself will be there.

Hatshepsut as a queen ruled Egypt for more than 22 years. Once she was in power, she decided to have this temple as a memorial temple and to sue as a Mummification temple to have all the process of mummification inside this temple. Which lasted for 70 days.

When the queen decided to have this temple her steward engineer Sinmut helped her to have a stunning design.

Hatshepsut loved the temple of King Montohotep the second which is to the left of her temple and is much older and that is why she wants to have a copy, But on a larger scale

The temple took 13 Years to be done the Temple divided into three floors. Flanking the entrance trees. brought by the Queen from the land of Punt. 2 lines of Sphinxes having the figures of the queen roughly 90 steps between the three floors.

The middle floor Chapel for the god Anubis to the right. On the left the Journey to the Land of Punt. around the left middle corner A chapel for the cow Goddess Hathor. The Third floor used by the earlier Christians as a church.
