660 k.m south of Cairo in the famous city of Luxor there is the well-known temple of Karnak.
A highlight you shouldn't miss. The greatest temple of Egypt. Actually, Karnak is not just a temple it's a great complex that contains a large number of various monuments. Karnak is the largest religious complex in the ancient world. Covers an area of around 62 acres ( nearly the size of a small Egyptian village ).
The Main temple inside Karnak is of the God Amun Ra Egypt's main god in Ancient times and king of all gods. The complex includes also other temples of minor gods, shrines, obelisks, statues of different kings and the great Hypostyle hall which has no equal anywhere and includes 134 massive columns.
The building in Karnak started at the time of the Middle Kingdom around 2000 BC and never stopped until the 1st century. 30 kings have participated in the building by adding different constructions. It's usually considered the second coolest thing to see in all of Egypt after seeing the Giza pyramids near Cairo.
