Luxor Temple one of the most famous Sun Temples. The Temple is mainly made out of sandstone. dedicated to the sun-god Amun Ra and his consort The goddess Mut.

Luxor Temple dates back to the new kingdom time when Luxor itself was a city chosen to be the capital of the Ancient Egyptian empire.

Luxor Temple was built by two kings the most inner part is the older built by King Amenhotep the Third.

The outer part is the newer built by Ramses The second. Luxor Temple used to be connected with the Karnak temple with Ram's bodies and lions. The bodies were lions and the heads were Rams flanking the entrance, two obelisks out of granite very nice and outstanding reliefs on the portal of the temple, where you can see scenes of Rameses the second while he was fighting and riding his chariot. The battle is known by Kadesh, maybe Syria nowadays.

In the first courtyard of the temple, there is an amazing mosque that dates back to 1200 A.D

This mosque built by the Iraqi Muslim sheikh his name is Abu Elhagag. at the same courtyard, we can see very nice chapels flanking them very nice pillars made out of granite, done by queen Hatshepsut and her nephew's stepson King Thutmose the third. So many figures for Ramses the second in this courtyard some have his heads, and some not. the most remarkable figures for King Rameses the second while he is sitting, these figures made out of grey granite on the two sides.

We can see very nice carvings for the Nile river God Hapi or the shemale God while he is uniting the two lands together. upper Egypt where is the symbol of the lotus flower, and lower Egypt where is the papyrus. Also in Cairo museum and the museum of Alexandria Library. So many pieces have been taken from the Luxor temple and they are showing them over there.
